Who We Are

Head Injury Rehabilitation and Referral Services, Inc. (HIRRS)
is a not for profit agency located in Rockville, MD.

The agency serves individuals with neurological impairments, specializing in those with brain injury. HIRRS currently serves approximately 100 individuals in our outpatient day treatment, community support services and vocational programs.

HIRRS is a not for profit 501(c)(3) agency which is overseen by a board of directors. The board is composed of professionals in the community with an interest in brain injury.

History

HIRRS was formed in 1991 to bridge the gap between acute care and a person's return to a productive lifestyle in the community. The program was developed by Beverly Whitlock whose personal and professional experiences in brain injury allowed her a unique perspective of the problems faced by individuals and families. Rick Hunter, who was of the first staff employed, was named president in 2008. Rick will continue the agency's philosophy of providing the best comprehensive services to assist individuals with brain injury.

Our Mission

The mission of Head Injury rehabilitation and Referral Service, Inc. (HIRRS) is to provide comprehensive, high quality and cost effective outpatient and residential rehabilitation services to individuals with acquired brain injury and their families to restore them to optimal function.
